The Borgo Santandrea is a postcard-perfect hotel on the gorgeous Amalfi coat – literally chiselled into the face of a cliff over 100 metres above sea level!

We stayed in a beautiful suite and, needless to say, the views across the coastline were stunning. Breakfast came with its own breakfast ambassador and is served until 11:30am in case you fancy a holiday lie-in. Guests walk around the Alici kitchen to select their breakfast options cooked to order before heading out to the panoramic terrace to enjoy the first meal of the day with a view. The sweet treats and pastries from the breakfast menu, made by the fantastic Plumbago Biscotteria remain available throughout the afternoon.

Lunch and dinner can be taken in the Alici restaurant (Michelin starred with an open kitchen) or Marinella restaurant, both with terraces overlooking the ocean. You’ll also find The Plumbago Bar at the highest point of the hotel with a simple and understated bar menu. What’s more, the hotel’s wine cellar offers a different sommelier-curated tour each evening alongside a selection of charcuterie, cheese and breads specially selected by the chef.

All the food and drinks we experienced were sublime – the lunches and dinners spectacular and the cocktails brilliant.

Given the hotel is chiselled into a cliff, we found both the gym and the pool slightly disappointing; but the private Beach Club exclusively for guests sits just below with its own restaurant and jetty.

Our suite was beautiful, but having stayed in a few places with similarly-priced facilities it was not quite as stunning as some we’ve experienced elsewhere. That said, it certainly had spectacular surroundings and a unique finish.

If you haven’t been to the Amalfi coast before and are visiting as a couple or adult group, the Borgo Santandrea is definitely recommended. Go for the views, the food, the drink and the brilliant service!
